At Greenbank Primary School we know that recognising and supporting emotional health and wellbeing is essential for school culture and learning.
Here are our aims:
1. Improve Children’s Emotional Wellbeing
- Help children understand and manage their emotions.
- Build confidence, resilience, self-regulation and a positive sense of self.
- Reduce anxiety and stress by giving pupils strategies to cope.
2. Support Better Learning and Academic Outcomes
- Children learn best when they feel safe, calm, and valued.
- Good mental health improves concentration, motivation, and engagement.
- Fewer emotional barriers to learning lead to better progress.
3. Develop Social and Relationship Skills
- Encourage kindness, empathy, and respect.
- Support positive friendships and reduce conflict and bullying.
- Teach children how to communicate effectively and resolve problems.
- Ensure our PSHE, RHE and the wider curriculum supports social and emotional skills and wellbeing.
4. Create a Supportive and Inclusive School Climate
- Ensure every child feels that they belong, feel emotionally safe and are accepted.
- Build a whole-school ethos where mental health is talked about openly and positively.
- Reduce stigma around mental health issues.
5. Identify and Support Children Who Need Help Early
- Early recognition of difficulties prevents small problems growing bigger.
- Make sure children get timely support from teachers, pastoral staff, or external services, this includes early emotional support.
- Improve long‑term wellbeing by intervening before issues escalate.
6. Strengthen Relationships With Families
- Work in partnership with parents to support children’s emotional needs.
- Provide families with information and strategies they can use at home.
- Ensure consistent support between school and home.
- Provide an open-door approach for families to access support when needed.
7. Support Staff Wellbeing Too
- Teachers and leadership teams who feel mentally well model positive behaviour for pupils.
- A supportive environment reduces staff stress and improves overall school climate.

#Thrive is for children and young people aged up to 19 years who are experiencing emotional health and wellbeing issues. We support those feeling stressed, worried or not enjoying things.
You must live, or be registered with a GP practice (doctor), in the Rochdale borough.
#Thrive can also give advice and support to parents, carers and anyone that works with a child or young people.
We offer specialist services to children and young people who are experiencing mental health difficulties.
We help children and young people up to the age of 18 years, up to 19 for neurodevelopmental disorders, and provide support to families and carers.
Advice and guidance for parents and carers to help them support a child or young person experiencing poor mental health or wellbeing.
